Simple Low Carb rules to Achieve Weight Loss

ScaleManA low carb diet is much like the pre-agriculture diet of humans. We are pre-genetically designed to be able to adapt easily to this way of eating.  Carbohydrate intake should be less than 20% of our daily consumption. The way to achieve this is to cut back on potatoes, Breads, pasta,  grains and sugars. We also need to be aware that many fruits contain carbohydrates in the form of sugars.

Everybody can benefit from watching their carb intake. Although the brain requires a certain amount of sugars to function properly, we tend to over eat them because they taste good. Cutting carbs has many benefits such as.

1. More energy

2. Less craving sweets

3. Improved brain function

4. Less dental issues

5. Prevents disease

6. WEIGHTLOSS

Foods that are low in carbohydrates are meats, cheese, green vegetables, eggs, and some berries. Keep in mind, if the food source has fiber,  subtract the grams of fiber from the grams of carbs to get the net carb. Salads can still taste good because on a low carb diet, salad dressing is still allowed. There are many great apps on the market today that will help with counting carbs . This makes it convenient for our busy lifestyles to be able to track what we eat as we go, right on our phone or tablet. Many of these apps will even graph out what percentage of carbs, proteins, and fats we have eaten.

There are many good recipes that taste just as good if not better than high carb recipes’. If the low carb diet is done correctly, hunger is not an issue. Counting carbs is easier than counting calories. Many of the foods are filling so we feel fuller longer and  we usually remain lower on the calorie scale. Here is  a delicious pizza recipe and the best thing is its low carb.

LOW CARB PIZZA

Crust

2 eggs

1     8 oz cream cheese (softened)

1   Cup. Parmesan Cheese

 

Sauce

1  6 oz can tomato paste

½   cup red wine

1 ½ tablespoon Dried oregano

1 ½ tablespoon Dried Basil

¼ tsp. Salt

4 cloves minced garlic

 

Toppings

pepperoniYour choice, try to stay away from bell peppers because they do contain higher amounts of carbs.

Mozzarella Cheese

 

 

 

Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees

Mix the crust ingredients. (It will be runny, but it will firm up when it bakes.) Pour into a greased 9×13 baking pan.

Place in the middle rack for 30 minutes.

 

When crust is done increase the oven to 425 degrees

Mix the sauce. You will mix the wine in slowly until you get a spreadable consistency. Spread evenly over crust. Cover with lots of mozzarella cheese. Then put the toppings you desire on.

Bake for 15 minutes and cut, serve, and enjoy

  1. How about eat less and exercise for the diet? Sorry for bursting your bubble here. I have a few friends who doing low-carb since the Atkins time (before he’s dead) and two of them now suffer with Nephropathy, kidney disease, due to the diet 😦 (Kidney have to process so much protein waste more than normal and has less carb to support its functions)

    • Thank you so much for your comment! Going to an extreme with anything in your diet is not healthy. We are advocates of awareness of what we are putting into our bodies, just like too much protein or too much fat, too many carbohydrates are tough on a person’s system.
      It is all about balance!
